Whiskey was never meant to stand still.

The heart of Milestone is our twenty-one-barrel Solera — a living collection of some of Westward's oldest and most precious whiskeys, continuously evolving as whiskey is drawn for each annual release and exceptional new casks are introduced in its place. Inspired by centuries-old winemaking and distilling traditions, the process allows flavors from our past to remain while making room for something entirely new.

Westward Whiskey Milestone Edition No. 4 captures the Solera at this exact moment in its evolution.  It can never be repeated.

A whiskey that could only exist now

This year’s Milestone release is the fourth edition created by renowned blending expert Miles Munroe. Westward Whiskey Milestone Edition No. 4 draws inspiration from the traditions and flavors of Cognac and Armagnac — brandies that, like single malt, are made from the harvest of a specific season, distilled in a defined region, and incapable of existing anywhere else.

With new casks added to the Solera, the majority of this year’s Milestone whiskey underwent secondary maturation in Hungarian oak and large Armagnac casks of French oak. Hungarian oak is among Europe's most prized barrel woods, bridging the spice of French oak and the sweetness of American oak. Armagnac itself is distilled only once, and most often from the Baco blanc grape: richer, earthier, more complex than most brandies. These barrels were selected to carry these distinct characteristics into Westward Whiskey Milestone Edition No. 4.

The result reveals a deeper, more mature side of Westward, layering the richness and structure of our American Single Malt with years of accumulated complexity. Verum Factum, our maker's knowledge, has been the philosophy behind Westward for more than two decades, and it continues to evolve with every barrel we make, every cask we explore, and every lesson we carry forward. Westward Whiskey Milestone is where all of that knowledge meets.

Tasting Notes
Edition No. 4 opens with notes of Manuka honey, gardenia, coconut and citrus oil, balanced by earthy cedar and vetiver on the nose. The palate turns darker and richer with brown sugar, split oak and birch, warming spice, savory vanilla, apricot, fig and leather, before a long, layered finish of lemon and lime rind, bright cherry, tobacco, walnut, bergamot and espresso affogato.
