M1 2017 (375ml) is our first-ever stout cask offering, originally released in 2017, and was our first-ever barrel collaboration. Lead Distiller Miles Munroe previously worked at Migration Brewing and developed the idea to trade barrels as a way to discover exciting new territory for whiskey. The Heritage Barrel had previously housed Migration Brewing’s Belgian Chocolate Imperial Stout for 4 months before we added Westward American Single Malt. The whiskey spent 8 months finishing before being released through the tasting room as M1.

Heritage Barrel 2021 (750ml) is one of our originally laid down barrels of American Single Malt that, like the M1, has aged in the prized “Heritage Barrel” that has journeyed back and forth with Migration Brewing four times, where it has been filled with their flavorful Frankie Imperial Stout and most recently a rich, barrel-aged Porter. 

The Heritage Barrel Timeline: 

• April 2012: New American white oak barrel filled with Westward American Single Malt
• September 15, 2015: Original whiskey was bottled and barrel given to Migration Brewing
• October 15, 2015: Barrel filled with Migration Brewing’s Belgian Chocolate Imperial Stout
• March 22, 2016: Barrel returned and filled with whiskey produced in June 2012
• January 4, 2017: M1 Bottled
• January 6, 2017: Barrel returned to Migration and filled with Heritage Barrel-Aged Porter
• October 2017: Migration Brewing released Heritage Barrel-Aged Porter
• October 2017: Barrel returned to Westward and filled with whiskey produced in April 2013
• July 2021: Oregon Barrel Works scraped and re-charred the barrel to extend the life of the cask and continue this tradition
• August 2021: Heritage Barrel Porter-finish bottled
