Double Dark is a groundbreaking expression of our American Single Malt—one that began with a walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. Inspired by the abundance of Acacia trees native to Australia, Master Blender Miles Munroe set out to explore how this rare wood might shape our whiskey. Known for its delicate citrus and jasmine notes and low tannin levels, Acacia offered a new kind of refinement and complexity.

We sourced handcrafted Acacia barrels from renowned cooperages in Bordeaux and Toulouse, then filled them with Westward aged 5.5 to 6 years in new American oak. Over the next 17 to 21 months, these French casks imparted a soft, floral brightness and a velvety mouthfeel—elevating the bold, fruit-forward character of our whiskey in an entirely new way.

The result is Double Dark: rich, expressive, and layered with Seville orange, golden syrup, and earthy notes. With its deep color, elegant texture, and floral lift, this is unlike any Westward we’ve released before.
