Westward Whiskey Old Grad is a true representation of the ethos that drives us to reimagine whiskey. We believe time in the barrel should enhance the flavors of our raw ingredients and amplify the characteristics found in our whiskey. Each bottle of this expression is dedicated to graduates of the esteemed United States Military Academy.
The “Old Grad Whiskey” is created by blending new barrels with legacy barrels in a solera system. This process imparts a one-of-a-kind flavor profile that is a testament to the art of aging. For this iteration, Master Blender Miles Munroe selected barrels 765 and 757 to blend with legacy barrels 29, 34, and 717. Each barrel chosen is rare on its own but also shares its original barreling day with a significant date in West Point history. The remaining whiskey in the solera will age gracefully, forming future editions as it matures.
2024 Barrels
BARRELS #765 & #757: This 4.5-year-old whiskey was barreled on August 26, 2019. These barrels share a birthdate with General Maxwell D. Taylor, USMA 1922. General Taylor was the commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. On the 80th anniversary of D-Day it is appropriate to pay homage to the Screaming Eagles. Today, the 101st Airborne is led by another old grad, MG Brett Sylvia, USMA 1994.
Legacy Barrels
BARREL #29: Barreled on May 28, 2015. This barrel celebrates the anniversary of USMA ’94 joining the long grey line! With Courage We Soar!
BARREL #34: Barreled on January 10, 2017. On this day, 1943, the 25th ID attacked the Gifu strongpoint on Guadalcanal. Alumnus General Lawton Collins (USMA 1917) was the commanding general of the 25th ID.
BARREL #717: Barreled on September 21, 2016. On this day in 1942, the B-29 Superfortress made its debut flight in Seattle. The B-29 was conceived by fellow alumnus General Hap Arnold (USMA 1907).
